West Virginia Secretary of State Betty Ireland was in Huntington Friday to talk with HNN about her tenure as West Virginia's first elected female executive, questions about voting machines, 'paper trails,' vote miscounting allegations and other such issues that some states have experienced around election time.

West Virginia has had few if any allegations of impropriety or problems with voting machines in recent years, such as next-door neighbor Ohio has and did, during the 2004 election.

HNN wanted to find out Ireland's secret.. turns out she's just that good. She's put strict regimens in place to head off problems before they become problems and has a great staff and people who work the poll sites to help achieve the election readiness West Virginia finds itself in this year.

This is her last year as Secretary of State as she's decided not to run for re-election due to family concerns.
