Huntington Symphony Orchestra's Maestro Kimo Furumoto wanted to try something a little bit different for their Valentine's concert Saturday at the Keith Albee. He wanted to have the symphony perform music inspired by Shakespeare. Executive Director Laura Evans says they'd been also talking about adding "a little something extra" to their shows.
So, in collaboration with actors from Marshall's Theatre Department they treated a crowd of several hundred to music inspired by the bard and written by the likes of Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, Henry Purcell William Martin and others.
Many of the pieces have probably become familiar to those who don't even realize they were listening to classical music.
Executive Director Laura Evans also unleashed her amazing soprano despite having strep throat Friday and the actors, wearing costumes designed by Joan St. Germain, performed Shakespearean interludes, directed by Jack Cirullo, from Hamlet, Twelfth Night, The Merry Wives of Windsor and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
