Huntington, WV (HNN) - Laura Gilliam, Executive Director of United Way of the River Cities announced that more than 2,000 free FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards are now available to help the people in our community lower the cost of their medicine. FamilyWize cards are primarily for people with no health insurance or prescription coverage. However, they can be used by everyone in our community who needs to buy medicine not covered by their insurance, Medicaid or Medicare plans.

People with Internet access can print a card by visiting the website at www.FamilyWize.com as well as look up drug prices and the list of participating pharmacies. Discount cards also can be obtained by calling United Way of the River Cities at 304-523-8929. A list of participating pharmacies will be available soon.

Most pharmacies here and throughout the United States accept the FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards. They have no usage or age limits, income requirements or registration forms, and can be used immediately.

The FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards are being distributed free of charge by United Way of the River Cities, the FamilyWize Partnership, and 500 other United Way agencies and Alliance Partners in America’s Promise in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Printing for four million prescription cards was donated by two other Pennsylvania company, Independent Graphics of Pittston, Pennsylvania and Brown Printing of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Shipping is being donated by Fedex Express.

"Too many American families have insufficient or no prescription drug coverage at all," said Laura Gilliam, Executive Director of the United Way of the River Cities. "Healthcare costs are one of the top concerns for people in our community and the FamilyWize discount prescription drug cards will help families who otherwise could not afford much needed prescription drugs. We hope the entire community will join us in thanking the pharmacies in our community that have voluntarily agreed to accept the FamilyWize card and provide these savings to the people in need in our community."

"The FamilyWize Partnership and our program sponsors are very excited to partner with participating United Way agencies to get these prescription drug discount cards into the hands of families who most need the help," said Dan Barnes, Co-Chair of the FamilyWize Partnership. "The FamilyWize community service partnership is committed to reducing the cost of medicine for children, families and individuals with no prescription drug coverage by $100 million in five years. These cards can reduce prescription drug costs by an average of 20 percent or more. Working with reputable and established charities like local United Way agencies and the America’s Promise Alliance is one of the best ways to reach the people who really need to save money on prescription drugs."
