Huntington, WV (HNN) - If you've never been to an American Indoor Football Association(AIFA) game before, check out the Huntington Heroes. They came from behind to beat the Florence Phantoms 47-32 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena Friday night to stay perfect for the season. The game is to be nationally televised Thursday in conjunction with SimplyMeTV [a national television broadcast, mobile phone broadcast and Web cast production outlet.]

Last Friday the Heroes stopped the expansion Florida Stingrays in a 56-9 rout, about which OurSportsCentral said "the most impressive defensive effort (of last week) may have been turned in by the Huntington Heroes."

The 'show' or game, started with a rock and roll Hollywood glitz-type open that no one would confuse with a Marshall game. Lights, camera, action indeed. Spinning lights highlighted the arena and Huntington Symphony Orchestra's divine diva/super soprano Laura Evans as she sang the national anthem under a single spot as the house lights then slowly came up to reveal the entire spectacle. Evans performs at every Heroes game.

Team owner Barb Wood said this Friday was an emotional night for her. "I saw them fight, fight, fight and have their backs to the wall and I saw an emotional bond between the team members that I've never seen before in a group of athletes. I am honored to be associated with a such a great group of young men who are that dedicated."

Wood explained that she saw a different level of game this week, saying that normally she was more concerned with the promotional aspects of the game whereas Friday she was in "Jerry Jones" mode. [Jones is the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, noted for his 'hands-on' sideline presence.] Wood paced the sidelines Friday night in perfect NFL style exhorting Coach Teddy Keaton and his team onto victory.

Attendance was up 27% over last week with a crowd estimated at 1,600. The fans were mad for the team and cheered enthusiastically throughout the game. Barb Wood said she especially wanted to give a shout-out to the ''two men who put it all together," Jamie Cunningham and Craig Knight. She said their hospitality and generosity made the Heroes first two games of this season possible.

Huntington, now 2-0 will go on the road and play the Carolina Speed in North Carolina on March 29 then visit the Reading Express on April 5. The Speed overwhelmed the Express, 49-17 last week in Charlotte.

The Heroes are home again April 11 when they play the Erie Riverrats who beat the Canton Legends 35-32 last week.
