Huntington, WV (HNN) – As part of the just-concluded Appalachian Studies Association conference, the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition (OHVEC) featured an art/print show, “Five Senses for Change,” depicting visual representations of their feelings regarding the controversial coal mining process known as mountaintop removal.
The show’s opening photo carried a warning caption: “The images on this display are now gone forever. What will our children remember from our mountain home? Blasts that sound through the valleys; rock dust haze across the perfect sky; creeks with black silt and no crawdad; and where the formations once towered --- now are level patches of sand and barren earth."
The displays photographed remain on display in the Drinko Study Center portion of the Drinko Library on the Marshall University campus.
