Huntington Parking Board Suggests Keeping a Director, Redefining Job Description, Lowering Salary
Privatization May Comes Before Council Soon

Huntington, WV (HNN) – The Huntington Municipal Parking Board at their monthly meeting agreed that a director needed still be an employee of the HMPB. Council had asked the board to consider whether -- with the meter attendants moving to Huntington Police Department -- an executive director was still necessary.
Board members have decided to wait on further reports from Capt. Michael Wilson, who has been serving since Mayor David Felinton fired Jonette Nelson.
Council member Frances Jackson, also a member of the Parking Board, expressed concern about council member James Insco’s suggestion to place five parking board employees under the supervision of the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. Although the proposal is far from its final form, Jackson surmised that “five employees would lose their union jobs” under that realignment. She disputed that the employees’ salaries would not change. She told Insco, “You need to recheck it again because they will not be paid the same thing.”
The question of privatizing aspects of the Parking Board’s duties --- such as allowing BSSA to operate the garage --- may be headed proposed at an upcoming council meeting.
