Huntington, WV (HNN) – Pending approval of a bankruptcy court, Direct TV has agreed to purchase Performance Response Corporation’s Huntington call center. The move will save the jobs of most of the 633 workers whose primary client is Direct TV.

Soon, Huntington area cell phone users will have one less choice. Alltel based in Little Rock, Arkansas, has agreed to a nearly $6 billion buyout by Verizon Wireless, the nation’s top wireless carrier. The company has already acquired West Virginia Wireless.

If approved, Verizon would have about 80 million customers.

Finally, Toyota will pump more than half a billion dollars into upgrades at its Buffalo plant in Putnam County. A recent report showed that workers at the West Virginia facility rank #1 on the productivity chart by manufacturing four cylinder engines. The new investment will ensure that the plant continues with cutting edge technology.
