Huntington, WV (HNN) - The Guide Dog was unveiled at Hillbilly Hotdogs on Monday afternoon, June 30, 2008 to help The Enable Project.
Hillbilly Hotdogs Proprietor Sonny Knight said, "We try to help out organizations like this. We don't have money to give them so we decided to come up with a thing for anybody that wants to raise money."
"They can come in for a week and we will sell a hot dog. They come up with a hot dog name and what is on it. We will sell it for a week and give them the proceeds from it," Knight added.
"It is for any organization that needs money. We back the autism a lot. We try to help people with problems like those that have cancer or maybe some body's house burned down," he said.
The Guide Dog is a beef wiener with a light cheese with sauce, mustard, onions and homemade slaw. The ingredients all melt together on a good sized hot dog to give it a delicious taste.
Knight is impressed with The Guide Dog, wanting it to be around for more than a week,. "It is a good dog and I think it is going on the menu."
For hamburger lovers with $40.00 and a lot of friends to feed Hillbilly Hotdogs offers a Big Bad Doublewide Bubba that weighs sixteen pounds and has a two foot diameter. The burger weighs twelve pounds and can feed 32 people.
Christopher Worth, The Enable Project Lead Director said, "I think this is the beginning of something. We are a grass roots organization working to grow our presence in the community."
"We are advocates for the physically and mentally challenged. We do our advocacy through social, political and economic empowerment."
The Enable Project was started in 2006 with about seven attending the weekly meetings. Today participation has increased almost 300 percent with about 20 attending the meetings.
"We have really picked up steam in the last five months. On July 4th we are going to do a closing event for The Guide Dog," Worth said..
The Enable Project phone number is 304-942-6959. They also can be reached through the Independability.com web site.
