Fall Semester Registration Underway at Ashland Community & Technical College

Ashland, KY (HNN) -- Fall Semester Classes are set to begin on Thursday, August 14, at ACTC.
There’s still time to take a fall semester class at Ashland Community and Technical College.
Registration continues Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 11 to 13. At the College Drive Campus, registration is from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. At the Roberts Drive and Technology Drive Campuses, registration is by appointment with instructors.
Late registration will be held at the College Drive Campus weekdays Aug. 14, 18, 19 and 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Aug. 15 from 9:00 to 4:00 p.m.

In-Demand Careers
Good paying jobs are available in the area for people who have hands-on technical skills in building, repairing, maintaining equipment or structures. Many of the career programs listed below can be completed in two years or less.

Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technology students prepare to install and service residential and commercial heating and cooling equipment. Contact Coordinator Dale Thornton, 606-326-2469.

Computer Aided Drafting students learn to transform design and engineering specifications into precise drawings for architectural or engineering companies. Contact Coordinator Lois Limberis, 606-326-2456.

Welding Technology students can master a variety of arc and gas welding techniques for occupations in business and industry. Contact coordinator Fred Burton, 606-326-2470.
Fall Humanities Classes
Some of the hundreds of classes offered at ACTC this fall explore humanity’s cultural and creative expressions. These classes may be used to satisfy general education requirements in the humanities.
Three art classes are open to students interested in developing their artistic skills and learning more about visual art. Drawing I (110ART) introduces basic drawing skills and concepts. Drawing II (210ART) explores advanced studio drawing techniques and concepts, including figure drawing. Introduction to Art (110ART) examines the formal and expressive qualities of major visual art forms.
Survey of Appalachian Studies I (HUM 202) is a new course introducing Appalachian history, economy, geography, politics and culture. The course can be counted as a Humanities elective and may also be applied towards an Appalachian Studies certificate.
Two on-line literature courses are Survey of American Literature I (ENG 251), covering significant writings from the Colonial era to the Civil War, and The Old Testament as Literature (ENG 270), which looks at literary forms and techniques in the major types Old Testament literature in English translation
University Choristers (MUC 192) is a one credit class for students who sing in the River Cities Choir. Rehearsal/class times are Tuesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Beginning Chinese I (RAE 150) will be taught Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. by ACTC’s visiting Chinese faculty from Tianjin Foreign Studies University.
Elementary Spanish I (SPA 101) emphasizes everyday language in both listening and reading comprehension. Intermediate Spanish III (SPA 201) further develops reading, listening and speaking. Both classes are on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
