Winfield Fishing Access to Close for Improvements
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
Huntington, WV (HNN) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily close the Route 35 fishing access area at Winfield Locks and Dam beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 for construction of improvements to the area.
Improvements to the fishing access site will include a paved parking area and an access walkway from the parking area to the riverbank that will extend about 700 feet along the shoreline. This walkway meets federally required accessibility standards. In addition, stone slope protection on the riverbank will be replaced to improve bank stabilization. Construction is expected to last approximately four to six months; that timeframe could vary depending upon the weather and water levels.
The Corps will host an information meeting regarding the temporary closure Monday, August, 18, 2008, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at The Redhouse Building, 401 Roosevelt Boulevard, in the Homestead Room, Eleanor, W.Va. Fishing access on the Eleanor side of the Kanawha River below Winfield Locks and Dam will remain open.
For additional information, contact Mike Keathley, project manager, 304-399-5864 or the Public Affairs Office, 304-399-5353.
