Cabell Huntington Hospital Ranked #1 in WV for Overall Orthopedics and Joint Replacement
Annual HealthGrades study on hospital quality surveyed 5,000 hospitals nationwide

Huntington, WV (HNN) -- The HealthGrades 11th Annual Hospital Quality Study released on Tuesday, Oct. 14 recognized Cabell Huntington Hospital as the #1 ranked hospital in West Virginia for overall orthopedic services and joint replacement.
Cabell Huntington was recognized once again as a recipient of the HealthGrades Specialty Excellence Award for Joint Replacement, ranking the hospital's joint replacement program among the Top 5 percent in the nation, the highest rating possible by HealthGrades. Cabell Huntington also received the award in 2008.
HealthGrades issued the following recognitions for Cabell Huntington Hospital in 2009:
* Ranked #1 in West Virginia for overall orthopedic services
* Ranked #1 in West Virginia for joint replacement - 2008 and 2009
* Ranked Among the Top 5 percent in the Nation for Joint Replacement in 2008 and 2009 ( highest recognition possible)
* Best Rated in the Tri-State area for overall orthopedics and joint replacement - 2008 and 2009
* Five Star rated (out of five stars) in Knee Replacement, 2008 and 2009
* Five Star rated (out of five stars) in Hip Replacement, 2008 and 2009
* Five Star rated (out of five stars) in Joint Replacement, 2008 and 2009

HealthGrades is an independent reviewer of hospital quality. For the 2009 study, more than 41 million Medicare hospitalization records were reviewed from the nation's approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals.
"This is the reason why so many patients travel great distances to have their total joints done here and this is also the reason why so many orthopedic surgeons travel so far to learn our techniques and pathways to take back home," said Ali Oliashirazi, MD, surgical director of the Mary H. Hodges Joint Replacement Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital and professor and chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.
