Huntington, WV (HNN) – You could have cruised the world Sunday afternoon at the Marshall Memorial Student Center. Combining cultural dances , traditions and foods, the International Festival brought out what may have been the largest crowd in its 45 year history.

Student performers ranged from the Caribbean to China, Russia, Korea and Vietnam.

Marshall University President Steven Kopp welcomed festival goers saying he and his wife were planning to “eat themselves around the world” at the booths.

Everyone could do just that as the samplings included sushi, tea, ohigirl egg omelets, curry chicken, oxtails, arroz de leche (dessert), Bulgogi, Hungarian pancakes, and Kalhumbari salad.

Entertainers performed dances from Bollywood movies, Vietnam hat dance, and “Drama Queen” from the MU Belly Dance club.

Evading the distances of geography, you swiftly learn not just about Spain, Saudi Arabia or Kenya, but about the students who have traveled from those lands to Marshall. Whether watching them perform, observing sincere hugs, or hearing a sweet, “excuse me,” the festival transmits a spirit beyond the customs of elaborately wrapped colorful floor length dresses --- We are all human, we are all individuals, and ignoring languages and flags, we are citizens of a multicultural society where dreams, expressions of fun, and desires for friendship and success link everyone.
