Having made a “cameo” appearance at the inauguration of Mayor Kim Wolfe dancing and singing the upbeat togetherness theme from “High School Musical,” The First Stage Theatre Company announces auditions for its Spring shows.
Based on the children’s book by E.B. White, “Charlotte’s Web” spins a tale of how Fern saves a runt pig named Wilber and in turn his life is saved by a spider named Charlotte. Featuring a cast of approximately 35 young performers, the non-musical will be performed March 6-8 and 13-15 at the Renaissance Theatre.
Directed by Amy Browning and produced by Jeanette Bills, auditions will be Saturday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pea Ridge United Methodist Church, 5747 E. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington.
At the same time, First Stage will hold auditions for its musical, “Alexander, Who’s Not Not Not Not Not Not Going to Move” which will be performed March 20-22, 27-29 at the Jeslyn Performing Arts Center (former Camelot Theatre) in downtown Huntington.
“Alexander Who’s Not” is the sequel to “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day.” Telling the story of a boy’s reactions when his parents tell him they are moving to a new town, the cast features 15 actors. Members of the production team are: Director Chuck Minsker, producer Jeanette Rowsey, music director Mark Smith, choreographer Melissa McGuffin, and assistant director Eric Newfeld.
Auditions are open to performers from age ten to high school seniors. Those auditioning for the musical should be prepared to sing a 30 second vocal selection; a pianist will be provided or you may use an instrumental tape or CD. Wear comfortable clothing for dance. Actors for both shows will be provided scripts from which to read aloud.
