Wayne, WV (HNN) -- Wayne High School held its 85th Annual Commencement on Thursday night, May 28, 2009, graduating 160 students in the school gymnasium.
Threats of rain and no seating on the home side at Pioneer Field because of construction forced the commencement inside.
A crowd of people surrounded the seated graduates dressed in red and black. Certainly this would have to be one of the most packed Pioneer gyms in school history Even with the packed crowd and heat everything ran smoothly
Speaking to the class were Very High Honor graduates Alexandria Amity Amorim, Heath Tayton Blankenship, Katie Ann Wilson and Michelle Rose Wilson.
Class officers were President Heather Adkins, Vice President Taylor Spurlock, Secretary Michelle Wilson and Treasurer Carli Followay.
Wayne High School Principal Sara Stapleton noted the 2009 class had received $680,000 in awards and scholarships. Eight students received Very High Honors, 19 received High Honors and 38 were awarded Honors.
