Flag Day Service Held at Pullman Square by Huntington Elks Lodge

Huntington, WV (HNN) -- Flag Day was recognized in Huntington at Pullman Square with the Huntington Elks Lodge #313 BP.O.E. Flag Day Service held Sunday afternoon, June 14.

Howard McDaniel opened the program with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner followed by lodge members giving an introductory program.
 
A prayer was given by Sue Trent. Russ Houck gave a history of the flag with each flag brought out by Scout Troop Pack 733 from Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. Josh Purkey addressed the group with the response.
 
Special guest speaker was Rob Stinnett a Huntington Police Officer Corporal. Stinnett has been a police officer in Huntington for 14 years. He also serves as a Master Sergeant with West Virginia National Guard's 130th Airlift Squadron. He has been on a year of rotations to Iraq and recently returned from Afghanistan.
 
In 1907 the BPO Elks Grand Lodge designated by resolution June 14 as Flag Day. In 1911 the lodge required all lodges to observe Flag Day a tradition that has been kept since.
