POLICE BLOTTER: Police Make Arrest in Connection with July 7 Murder, Armed Robbery Charges
Death Marked Huntington’s First Homicide of 2009; Copper Taken from Marshall Construction Sites

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Huntington Police have charged a man in the shooting death July 7 of Bllly James Jordan, who was found lying in the intersection of Ninth Avenue and 27th Street.
 
Following investigation, Thomas Redding, of Macon, Ga., faces murder and armed robbery charges in connection with Jordan’s death. A criminal complaint alleges that Redding and Jordan met at the location to exchange drug money. Witnesses have stated that a weapon was fired striking the victim in the back. $3,500 in cash was also taken from him.
 
Jordan died at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Ironically, when arraigned on the charges, Redding, 20, was already an inmate at the Western Regional Jail. He had been jailed after his bond was revoked related to his arrest (along with two others) March 4 at his home on West Fifth Avenue, where officers found cocaine, guns , and cash.
 
Redding has a preliminary hearing July 24. Jordan was the first murder recorded in the City of Huntington in 2009.
 
 
ALLEGED RIVERFRONT ATTACK
 
A Huntington television station has reported that a man is recovering from at St. Mary’s Hospital, after his fishing expedition Sunday, July 12, at Harris Riverfront Park turned deadly. Apparently an unknown person beat Virgil Bradshaw so badly that he required brain surgery. According to the TV website, the incident had been originally reported as an injury, rather than an attack, thus, HPD did not meet with the victim’s family until Wednesday, July 15.
 
 
ROBBERS STILL AT LARGE
 
Meanwhile, suspects who robbed Fazio’s Restaurant , Sunday night July 12, and Marquee Cinemas Pullman Square , early Monday morning , July 13, remain at large. The restaurant suspect allegedly used a BB gun, but the suspect who robbed the 16-screen theatre was armed.
 
The theatre robbery suspect has been described by witnesses and on surveillance tape as dressed in black with a bandana covering his face. Movie customers had already left for the night and an off-duty HPD officer who provides theatre security left ten minutes prior to the robbery. Employees were wrapping up their final closing procedures.

MU CONTRACTORS LOSE COPPER
 
Thieves made off with large amounts of copper from two construction sites near Marshall University. About 760 feet of piping was taken from the Erickson Alumni site in the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue, while ten spools of wiring were taken from a building under construction at 519 John Marshall Drive. These incidents occurred either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
