Fifth Annual Hot Dog Festival a Big Success

Huntington, WV (HNN) -- The West Virginia Hot Dog Festival brought thousands of people to Huntington on Saturday, July 25, 2009 to celebrate the hot dog with games, fun, entertainment and dog races,
 
The Cavalier Meat's Annual West Virginia Weiner Dog Races was moved this year for the first time to Third Avenue. The races had been held in front of the Pullman Square main buidling.
 
People were lined up six deep around the track to view the popular races . Even the judges and officials on the track we re getting the ire of some people for blocking their view.
 
Robert Ackley from Huntington won the Stewart's Original Hot Dog eating contest. Amazingly he ate another hot dog afterwards.
 
Mark Burcham from Huntington won the Frostop Drive-In's Rootbeer Chuggin' Contest for his fifth year in a row giving him another trophy for his office. A lot of competitors found out it is difficult to go against a five year veteran champion,
 
Performances from Huntington Outdoor Theatre's "All Shook Up" were presented to much applause and a large audience. The show closes out Sunday, July 26 at the Ritter Park Amphitheater.
 
Myriah Hisam made history last year being the first Miss West Virginia Hot Dog Festival Queen. She continues making history in 2009 serving as queen for her second year. The attractive Miss Hisam led the Pooch Parade with hot dog mascot Stewie going around Pullman Square.
 
At the Cooking and Culinary Institute across the street six culinary judges were deciding who has the best homemade tasting hot dog sauce.
 
The West Virginia Hot Dog Festival completed its fifth successful year, bringing twelve area participating hot dog vendors together and thousands of people to Huntington.
 
Proceeds from the event will go to the children's cancer unit at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center.
