Marshall University Director of Bands Steve Barnett said: "This has been one of the best groups I have ever had at a band camp in my 31 years. We had a great week,"

He noted the band will be almost 300 members strong this year and thanked those that made it possible for a new band practice field and indoor facility.

The new green artificial turf field is beside of the new Marshall University Recreation Center where the entrance is located and to the left of the Cam Henderson east entrance doors facing 20th Street.

That should be ideal for the Marching Thunder because their new indoor practice facility is located in Cam Henderson Center in a former auxiliary gym. Some construction is still taking place, but it is complete enough to be in use.

The nice August day with white clouds against a bright blue sky and breeze made it an ideal day to close the band camp. There was a good crowd of people lined five deep and more along the sidelines of the new field to watch the band perform their upcoming 2009 show.
