Huntington, WV (HNN) -- Huntington will host the 2009 Create West Virginia Conference October 18-20. The event provides an opportunity to network with others trying to transform their communities into leaders of the creative class.

Kevin Stolarick, Research Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute at the University of Toronto, will talk about the role of the creative economy and the creative class in rural America. Known as the “Official Statistician of the Creative Class,” Stolarick’s talk is entitled, “Creative Economy Outside City Limits.”

Described as insightful into learning about the fundamental shift the continues amongst the economies of the world’s developed and developing countries, the Research Director explained “it’s not just something impacting big cities, it’s across the board.” His talk discusses the transition and presents an overview of information on WV and how it has created challenges for cities, towns, townships, and rural areas. He provides strategies and examples for leveraging the transition with the region’s outstanding attributes into a successful future.

A special Chat ’n Chew occurs Monday, Oct. 19 from 5-6 p.m. in the Frederick Building lobby. This will allow those attending the conference to see the forum for change at work. After the discussion at the Frederick, the conference hosts a “Night Out in Huntington” with the opening of an exhibit at Gallery 842 and live performances on stage at the Morris Building.

Registration info is available at the conference website: http://www.createev.com/2009conference.

To encourage and engage the Marshall University community to participate in the conference, the October 8 Chat ‘n Chew will be held in the basement of the Memorial Student Center. Following the discussion, a Create Huntington Forum will be held outlining strategic plan tasks.
