Cabell County Clerk Certified Primary Candidates: Magistrate, Commissioner, County Clerk Contested Contests
Many Executive Committee Slots Have no Opposition

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Seven Democrats and two Republicans have been certified for the May primary election for the to run for Donald Maynard’s unexpired term. Maynard, a retired Huntington police officer, died in May 2009.
Dan Goheen, a Democrat, appointed to fill Maynard’s office until the coming election , previously was president of the Huntington Police Civil Service Commission. In the 2008 primary , he lost by 240 votes to retired magistrate Patty Verbage-Spence. He filled the final six months of Alvie Qualls unexpired term from June 22, 2008 to December 31, 2008.
Challenging Goheen on the Democratic side of the ticket will be Timothy Fox, Teresa Fulks Gregory Lawson, John R. Rice, Opel Sanders, and Danne Vance.
Two Republicans filed for the seat, Teresa Beter and Paul Harvey. The top Democrat and Republican primary candidates must then compete against each other for the seat in the November General Election.
COUNTY COMMISSIONER
Incumbent Scott Bias has two Democratic challengers for his seat on the County Commission. Irv Johnson and Michael Maxey compete against Bias in May. The winner will face Republican Ann M. Yon in the November General Election.
COUNTY CLERK
Democratic incumbent Karen Cole has been challenged by current city councilman Scott Caserta. Since both are Democrats and no Republican filed, the Primary winner should win the office.
CIRCUIT CLERK
Democratic incumbent Adell Chandler has no challengers in either party.
NON PARTISAN CONSERVATION DISTRICT SUPERVISOR GUYAN DISTRICT
Two men have been certified as running for the office, Halleck “Cappy” Adkins and John “OB” Oblinger.
