WORK SESSION: Agreeable, Short Work Session Suggests Routine Council Meeting Monday

Huntington, WV (HNN) – You could not have planned the timing of the Friday, Feb. 5, council work session better. Scheduled as rain pounded and Winter Storm Warnings foretold changes to ice and snow, council and the administration conducted preparation for Monday’s council meeting expeditiously.
Fortunately, three of the items on which to be voted involve expanding notification boundaries from 200 to 400 feet and requiring that occupants as well as owners receive notifications. Council has previously debated and tweaked these measures in committee so the version coming before council at the work session already had near consensus.
An ordinance also increases the fee upon the petitioner for special permits, zoning changes, and public hearing for increased notification costs, as well as the cost (from $5 to $15) for certificates of occupancy.
Approval is also expected for the purchase of six police cars using funds derived from drug forfeiture funds to replace older vehicles now used by detectives.
In addition, Mayor Kim Wolfe and Councilman Jim Ritter will be appointed to the Tri State Airport Authority.
At the conclusion of the work session, Council Chair Jim Insco announced that the first of four budget sessions would be Saturday, Feb. 27 at 9 a.m.
