Marshall Presidential Field Dwindles to 2 Candidates; Winner to be Announced

Huntington (HNN) – The Marshall University Board of Governors has scheduled
a news conference at noon Wednesday, June 8, 2005 to announce the next
president of the university.
Earlier Tuesday, June 7, 2005, Dr. Charles Kupchella, president of the
University of North Dakota, took himself out of consideration, indicating
that he had not been contacted and that negotiations with the desired
candidate were in progress.
Thus, Dr. Thomas Hanley, current VP of Auburn University, or Dr. Stephen J.
Kopp, special assistant to the chancellor with the Ohio Board of Regents and
former Ohio University president, will be introduced in the Joan C. Edwards
Performing Arts Center's Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre.
The search committee met Monday, June 6, 2005 at the Robert C. Byrd
Institute to discuss the four finalists. The committee's recommendation was
unanimous.
Dr. John W. Bardo, chancellor of Western Carolina University, withdrew his
name from consideration before the meeting.
