From a Marshall Artists Series release
Huntington, WV (HNN) - Shag dancing has swept the nation and now it’s Huntington’s turn to join the phenomenon! But don’t worry; you don’t have to shag to have a good time as Jim Quick and the Coastline join hip-hop dance crew Culture Shock as the opening acts for R&B legends Kool & The Gang as they perform live in concert at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena, Friday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m.
A dance style that shares trademarks with the well-known styles of the jitterbug and East- and West-Coast Swing, the Carolina Shag has become an increasingly popular dance throughout the country, inspiring festivals and year-round activities in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. If you wander into one of many shag clubs throughout the South, you are sure to see people dancing to the easygoing, bluesy music of Jim Quick and Coastline, including the number one shag dance song, “Mama’s Drinkin’ Liquor Again.” An eclectic blend of rock, soul, and blues, Jim Quick and Coastline has taken the best of Southern music styles and created their own “Coastline” sound perfect for the smooth, graceful steps of shag dancing. With superbly talented members including the winner of The Carolina Music Awards’ Entertainer of the Year Jim Quick, Casey Meyer, “The Band” veteran Albert Rogers, and Glen Tibbet bringing musical backgrounds as varied as their instruments, Jim Quick and Coastline are sure to have you gliding across the dance floor in no time!
