Spring International Film Festival Graces the Silver Screen of Huntington’s
Keith Albee Performing Art Center February 20th-February 26th, 2009

The Marshall Artists Series is thrilled to bring to Huntington this weeklong festival filled with phenomenal award-winning films from around the world. The festival runs from February 20—February 26, 2009 and will be held at the historic Keith—Albee Performing Arts Center. With six different captivating tales to choose from, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but most of all you’ll be entertained.
 
Kicking off the festival is the The Grocer’s Son, a drama from France. It is summer, and thirty-year-old Antoine is forced to leave the city to return to his family in Provence. His father is sick, so he must assume the lifestyle he thought he had shed—driving the family grocery cart from hamlet to hamlet, delivering supplies to the few remaining inhabitants. Soon a life of seemingly dull instances blossoms into one adventure after another, full of love and laughter this film is sure to keep audience amused. This film is presented in French with English subtitles. The film plays Friday February 20th at 5:30 P.M. Saturday, February 21, at 9:45 P.M., and Tuesday, February 24, at 5:30 P.M.
 
Brick Lane is a drama from the United Kingdom, and follows the story of a young Bangladeshi woman, Nazneem, who arrives in 1980’s London, leaving behind her beloved sister for an arranged marriage and a new life. The tale deals with everyday questions in life about love, the pursuit of happiness and how far will one go to find them. This film is presented in English. Audiences can catch Brick Lane Friday, February 20, at 7:30 P.M., Sunday, February 22 at 9:45 P.M., and Wednesday, February 25 at 7:30 P.M.
 
Edge of Heaven is a German/Turkish drama that begins in a Turkish enclave in Bremen, patriarchal widower Ali brings home Yeter, a local prostitute, to tend to his domestic needs. When Yeter is accidentally killed, Ali’s son Nejat heads to Turkey to find Ayten, who unbeknownst to him, has embarked on her own rebellious journey to Germany. Multi-layered and poignant, The Edge of Heaven delves into German-Turkish relations and age-old generation divides. This film shows Friday, February 20, at 9:45, Sunday, February 22 at 5:30 P.M., and at Wednesday, February 25 at 5:30 P.M.
 
Trouble the Water: The American documentary follows the tale of Kimberly and Scott Roberts, residents relegated to the role of refugees in their own country the moment the levees broke in New Orleans. Their story is a harrowing struggle against the forces of nature and the evils of man as they nobly attempt to rebuild their lives amidst one of the greatest natural disasters ever to befall the United States. This film is presented in English, and can be seen Saturday, February 21 at 2:30, P.M Sunday, February 22 at 7:30 P. M., Monday, February 23 at 5:30 P.M., and Thursday February 26, at 7:30 P.M.
 
Caramel: A romantic comedy from Lebanon/France takes place in Beirut. Five women meet regularly in a beauty salon, a colorful and sensual microcosm of the city where several generations come into contact, talk and confide in each other. In the salon, their intimate and liberated conversations revolve around men, sex, and motherhood, between haircuts and sugar waxing with caramel. This film is presented in Arabic & French with English subtitles. Caramel runs Saturday, February 21, at 5:30 P.M., Monday, February 23 at 7:30P.M., and Thursday, February 26 at 5:30 P.M.
 
Elsa & Fred: A Romanic Comedy from Argentina follows the story of the retired seventy-seven year old hypochondriac widower Fred who has moved to a small apartment in Madrid where he is planning to finish out his life. But when he meets his neighbor, vivacious Elsa, he soon discovers how much life he has to live. Love is irresistible and often maddening, but as these two at the end of their road discover, it’s never too late to find it. This film is presented in French and Italian, with English subtitles. Audiences can catch Elsa & Fred on Saturday, February 21, at 7:30 P.M. Sunday, February 22 at 2:30 P.M., and Tuesday February 24 at 7:30 P.M.
 
Tickets may be purchased at the door, advance tickets are not necessary. Individual tickets may be purchased at the door 15 minutes prior to each film. Individual film admission is $7, and tickets for Marshall’s staff and faculty are $5.50 each. Tickets for full-time Marshall Students are offered at no charge to the student. MU Staff and Students MUST present a valid MU ID prior to admission. Season ticket holders will be admitted 30 minutes.
