MU Conference to Update Health Providers on H1N1 flu, MRSA, Similar Problems

Huntington, WV (HNN) -- A conference updating health-care providers on infectious disease problems such as H1N1 flu and antibiotic-resistant bacteria will be offered Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.
The conference runs from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Marshall University Medical Center, 1600 Medical Center Drive in Huntington.

· H1N1 pandemic – Dr. Gary Gorby, chief of infectious diseases at Creighton UniversityThe program meets continuing education requirements for physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and employees of Cabell Huntington Hospital. · MRSA screening in intensive care units – Dr. Thomas Rushton, chief of infectious diseases, Marshall University
· Opportunistic infections after lung transplants – Dr. David Nunley, associate professor of medicine, Ohio State University
· Catheter-associated blood stream infections – Dr. Eduardo Pino, associate professor of pediatrics, Marshall University
· Trends and therapy options in gram-negative infections – Christine Teague, PharmD, Charleston Area Medical Center
· Prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia – Lorraine B. Fields, MSN, critical care nurse specialist, Aultman Health Foundation, Canton, Ohio
