RECALLS THIS WEEK: Water Heaters Pose Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hazard...and More Recalls

Water Heating Division of Rheem Sales Company Inc., of Montgomery, Ala. and Paloma Industries Inc., of Oxnard, Calif. is recallng Power Vent tankless water heaters sold nationwide from May 2004 to December 2006. Components inside the water heater may shift during transit, causing an air filter door switch to operate improperly. If the switch fails and the air filter door is out of place, the water heater could continue to operate and dust and lint could build up, posing a carbon monoxide poisoning hazard.
 
The recall involves indoor models of the Power Vent 199,900 BTUH tankless water heaters. The brands and model numbers included in this recall can be found at www.recalls.org.
 
Consumers, who have not already been contacted by an authorized contractor, should immediately contact their installer or Rheem Manufacturing Company at (866) 369-4786 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT Saturday and Sunday, to arrange for a free, on-site repair. SAKE WARMERS POSE BURN HAZARD
 
Tap Machine Inc. is recalling Sake Warmers sold nationwide from November 2005 to January 2007. These sake warmers can unexpectedly spray hot sake on consumers during use, posing a risk of serious burns.
 
The recalled product is used to warm sake at restaurants, bars or for home use. The counter-sized unit is about 11-inches wide by 11-inches deep by 19-inches high. The recalled units have model number SM05 followed by serial numbers: 1001 through 3074, which is written on the left side of the units.
 
Consumers should return the warmers to Tap Machine for a full refund.

GEL CANDLES POSE FIRE AND BURN HAZARD
 
M & A Global Technologies Inc. d/b/a Spa at Home, of Tallahassee, Fla. is recalling gel candles sold nationwide from October 2003 to December 2003 and October 2005 to December 2005. The candles can have excessive flame height, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
 
This recall involves Everlasting Jelly candles. Models include Champagne Glass with Heart, Model #502; Large Oval Bowl with Sand & Shells, Model #109-XL; Tumbler with Sand & Shells, Model #101-S; Round Shape with Curly Top and Red Roses, Model #506; Round Shape with Penguins, Model #604; Tumbler with Blue Roses & Leaves, Model #805-11; and Round Shape with Two Butterflies, Model #806-8. The candles were sold in clear glass containers of various sizes with a smaller glass of gel in the middle of the candle.

BEST BUY RECALLS REMOTE CONTROLS USED WITH DVD PLAYERS
 
Best Buy Co. Inc. is recalling Remote Controls Sold With Insignia 100W DVD Compact Shelf Systems sold nationwide from May 2006 to January 2007. If the batteries are placed backwards in the remote control with the positive and negative sides improperly switched, overheating can result and present a burn hazard.
 
The white remote control has model number NS-A1113 and “Insignia” printed on the front. The keypad has black numbers/letters. The recalled remote controls were sold exclusively with the Insignia 100W DVD Compact Shelf System. The remote controls were not sold separately.

SAFETY ALERT FOR LIGHTERS SOLD AT WAL-MART
 
CFM U.S. Corp., of Huntington, Ind. has issued a safety alert for Multi-Purpose Gas Lighters Sold at Wal-Mart nationwide from February 2006 to January 2007. The lighters do not have a label in English containing precautionary information concerning the proper use and operation. Failure to follow the instructions in the warning label could result in injury.
 
The recall involves three models of multi-purpose butane lighters sold under the brand name, The Grill Care Company®. The lighters are nine or 11 inches long and have the words "The Grill Care Company" and “NOM” printed on the label affixed to each lighter. Only lighters that have Spanish warnings and do not have English warnings are included in this recall.
