First District Congressman Alan Mollohan Files for Re-Election

Congressman Alan B. Mollohan has filed for reelection to represent the First Congressional District of West Virginia in the 111th Congress.
Mollohan, of Fairmont, said he has been honored to represent the people of the district and work on a wide ranging list of legislative and constituent service issues and respectfully submits his name and work for their continued consideration in the 2008 election process.
"From appropriations that reinvest in the infrastructure of our towns and communities to assisting our veterans in their efforts to secure deserved benefits, I have worked hard for the people I represent," Mollohan said. "We have enjoyed many successes together and I look forward to building upon that record in the future."
Mollohan, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, has worked to secure funding for law enforcement, programs that target help for at risk teenagers, flood protection, economic diversification, street improvements, riverfront parks, county courthouse restorations and much more. At the same time, his constituent service activities have helped thousands of West Virginians hack through government red tape to secure benefits and services they deserve.
"I am happy to put my experience and position to work to further help West Virginia," Mollohan said.
Mollohan was born in Fairmont. He is a graduate of the Greenbrier Military School, the College of William and Mary, and West Virginia University's College of Law. He began a legal career in 1970 with a Fairmont law firm.
Mollohan was sworn in as a member of the US House of Representatives in 1983 and has served in each successive Congress.
One of his priorities is economic development in the First District. He works to defend its traditional industries against unfair attack and to diversity its base through high-tech, aerospace and government-service activities.
