Washington, DC (HNN) -- U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall, D-WV announced the agreement for the new Griffithsville Water Distribution System was signed Friday.

The project partnership agreement between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Lincoln County Public Service District will officially mark the beginning of the $1.3 million water project. The Section 340 Southern West Virginia Environmental Infrastructure Program Fund, which was engineered by Rahall, will provide $1 million in federal funding and the remaining funds will be provided by the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council and the Lincoln County Commission.

“Water and wastewater infrastructure continues to elude many citizens in our great state, which is why I am continually working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to try to get more federal funding for projects like the one signed into agreement,” said Rahall. “Potable, clean water is imperative to the health and well being of West Virginians.”

The project, which falls under the Section 340 Southern West Virginia Environmental Infrastructure Program, will include the design and installation of a water distribution system from Griffithsville, W.Va., to Hamlin, W.Va. The system will be connected to West Virginia American Water and will supply more than 250 existing customers and more than 140 new customers in this area with potable water.
