Washington, DC (HNN) – U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) announced Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 that U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel John Paul Cook has joined the staff of his Washington Office as a U.S. Army Fellow. LTC Cook’s fellowship, sponsored by the Army’s Congressional Orientation Program, will focus on military and veterans affairs.
“There are 177,500 veterans and 10,000 men and women serving in our Armed Forces who call West Virginia home,” said Rahall. “LTC Cook has over 20 years of military career experience in active duty and reserve component affairs. We are putting his experience to work for our veterans, service members and their families. Our returning service personnel face a unique set of challenges as they restart their civilian lives. Once they are back home they deserve every ounce of support from us, just like we gave them in the theater of battle. LTC Cook's insight and understanding is a great asset for our returning men and women.”
“Congressman Rahall has an exemplary record of service and I am so honored to have the opportunity to join his team,” said LTC Cook. “Mr. Rahall has always shown strong support for veterans and military members in southern West Virginia and I am eager to assist him with finding solutions to improve life for active, reserve and retired military members in his region.”
LTC Cook joins Rep. Rahall’s Washington office from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, and is an integral member of the Active Component/Reserve Component Integration Team. He will visit southern West Virginia to meet with representatives of the West Virginia National Guard and Army Reserve on issues faced by local military veterans, reserve components, and military family members.
