Huntington (HNN) — West Virginia State with 19 hits and 16 runs beat Marshall 16-9 in a collegiate baseball game played at University Heights on Wednesday afternoon, May 4, 2005.
West Virginia State is leading the WVIAC with a 14-1 record and has a 36-13 record overall with a .729 winning percentage. They are ranked 13th nationally.
With all the hitting from both teams it was certainly not a good day for pitchers. WV State had a 4-3 lead after three innings then took off scoring four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 8-4 lead as the fifth inning started.
Marshall gained respect scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth, but West Virginia State had countered that scoring enough runs each inning to keep their lead and win the game.
Marshall, 13-26 overall and 6-9 in Mid-American Conference play, will play host to Akron this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 6-8, 2005 for a three-game series.
