Huntington's new football team, the Mountain State Titans, beat the West Virginia Wham from Morgantown 21-14 at A.D. Lewis Field on Saturday evening, June 25, 2005, in an excellent played football game.

The game brought back minor league football to Huntington for the first time since the demise of the Huntington Hawks. The football fans that came to watch seemed to enjoy the game even with the temperature in the mid 90s.

The score at half time was 7-6 in favor of the Wham. In the second half the Titans held the Wham with some help from penalties that nullified some Wham big plays. Huntington got the offense rolling scoring 14 hard earned points to take the lead and win the game.

Radio announcer and Marshall University commentator Woody Woodrum observing the game was contemplating on the possibility of doing a radio broadcast at the next home game for the new football team, if enough advertising could be sold.

The next home game for the Mountain State Titans isscheduled for Saturday, July 2, 2005 against the Bluefield Barons.
