Daniels, WV(HNN) – Mike Mays overcame a seven–stroke deficit and defeated Brandon Reece in a sudden death playoff at Glade Springs Resort here to win the 25th Beckley Newspapers Invitational (BNI) Golf Classic Monday, July 18, 2005.

Mays, from Beckley, was tied at 213 with Reece after 72 holes of regulation play at Brier Patch, Grandview and Glade Springs beginning Saturday, July 16. A hole–in–one on Glade Springs' Cobb Course par 3 Hole No. 3, contributed to the winner's final round of 69. He was the only player in the final round to break par on the challenging par–72 course

The win was Mays' sixth BNI title. He played his first BNI before many of the hotshot young players in the three–day event were born. Don Jones was third with 214; David Lane was fourth with 216, and Alan Wharton was fifth with 220.
