Huntington, WV (HNN) -- The Marshall Thundering Herd turned a mistake-filled performance into a 30-14 loss against the UCF Knights Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

On Marshall's first possesion the punt snap went through punter Case Whitehead's hands and into the end zone to give the Knights a 7-0 lead.

After UCF took a 10-0 lead on a 27 yard field goal by Nick Cattoi, though Knight's turned a interception by Marshall quarterback Mark Cann into a 24 yard Cattoi field goal and a 13-0 lead.

Cann finished the game connecting on 4-of-17 passes for 32 yards with two interceptions.

The Herd then turned a Knight muff of a punt into a one yard Chubb Small touchdown run to get on the board at 13-7 with 5:59 left in the first half.

But after holding UCF on their next possesion Marshall's Emmanuel Spann muffed a Knight punt to set up a two yard Rob Callabrese TD pass to John Lubischer to lead at halftime 20-7.

Marshall cut the deficit to 20-14 with 9:50 left in the third quarter when Cann hit Cody Slate on a 15 yard pass that capped off a four-play, 75-yard drive.

Marshall's offense failed to score from that point as a Cann interception set up a 24 yard Cattoi field goal and running back Brynn Harvey scored on a 50 yard TD run.

The Herd was led by running back Darius Marshall who ran for 142 yards on 16 carries.
