Bush to Visit Morgantown July 4; Capito Will Appear with Him
by HNN Staff
Morgantown, WV (HNN) - President George W. Bush will visit Woodburn Circle on WVU's Downtown Campus here Monday, July 4, 2005 - his only trip out of Washington, D.C. on Independence Day. U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capitol (R-WV) will appear with Bush at the midmorning speech, her office confirmed Friday, July 1, 2005.
White House spokesman Taylor Gross told HNN that Bush will visit Morgantown and then head back to Washington to enjoy the annual fireworks show on the White House lawn. Gross said the Morgantown appearance - Bush's third July 4th visit to the Mountain State in the last four years - will focus on "patriotism and America's efforts to promote freedom around the world."
The visit to Woodburn Circle on WVU's Downtown Campus will mark Bush's third July 4th visit to West Virginia in the last four years. President Bush was on the steps of the Jackson County Courthouse in 2002 and he spent last July 4th on the steps of the state capitol in Charleston.
West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Robin Capehart says the visit says something for President Bush's love for West Virginia. "I have talked to people who know the President who have indicated that he truly likes West Virginia." Bush was on the steps of the Jackson County Courthouse in 2002 and spent last July 4th on the steps of the state Capitol in Charleston.
Capehart says Bush likes the people and the welcome he receives. Capehart predicts West Virginians "will be excited and ready to welcome him again."
