Charleston's Bristol Broadcasting Faces Music
Over Cancellation of Jerry Waters Show
by HNN Staff
In what may have been the first picketing of a cancellation
of a local talk radio program in Mountain State history,
several listeners of the former Jerry Waters Show on WVTS-AM
Charleston descended on the Bristol Broadcasting studios
during Waters' former airtime of 10 a.m. -- Noon on Monday, March 12, 2007.
Waters' show was cancelled abruptly two weeks ago without
explanation, though some of the protesters say that station
management told them after the demonstration today that
Bristol will keep all options open after giving the syndicated
Glenn Beck show -- Waters' replacement -- a chance this year.
Waters himself was not one of the organizers of the event,
saying that he was "too close" to the situation. However,
he congratulated his fans for showing their support for
local talk radio in the Kanawha Valley.
From all reports, the protest was peaceable yet, in the
talk radio tradition, vocal.
