BOOK NOTES: WV Author Leah Taylor Pens 'Horses of the Presidents'

By HNN Staff

All of our greatest Presidents have loved horses. Now a new book, 'Horses of the Presidents' tells how the horse helped to shape America.

The book tells little known facts about the Presidents of the United States, like how George Washington always had his horse’s teeth brushed before he would go for a ride, or that Herbert Hoover used to ride horses in the Outback of Australia. Theodore Roosevelt’s sons actually took their miniature horse up in the White House elevator! There are many stories published for the first time and the book is illustrated with over 250 pictures.

Leah C. Taylor tells these stories and so much more in Horses of the Presidents, (222 pages., trade paperback, $16.95, Booksurge Publishing), while making history fun. The book strives to make the Presidents human and illustrates how the horse really did help to shape America.

According to the author, 'This is a wonderful book for children and a great way to teach history. It is perfect for school book reports and shows a side of the President’s never exposed before.'

This is the third book for Leah C. Taylor, who co-authored Fielding’s Literary Africa, (1986) and Fielding’s African Safaris, (1987), William Morrow.

The book is available from www.Amazon.com, www.Borders.com, www.Target .com and www.
