West Virginia Equine Association to Offer Large Animal Emergency Response Training
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
West Virginia Equine Association is proud to offer training to first responders, veterinarians, horse owners and the general public in large animal emergency response techniques by offering a two-day certification course.
The group's large animal emergency response training course will take place July 11-12, at the West Virginia State Fire Training Academy in Weston, WV. Aimed at emergency responders, horse owners, barn managers and the general public, each days session runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The course is "hands-on" and uses live, trained horses. Training will include management of rescue operations, entrapment and trailer rescue, capture and containment of large animals, emergency equipment, slinging and lifting, and mud, ice and water rescue.
This is the first training of its kind to be held in West Virginia. Large animals can present a great risk to emergency personnel and bystanders when an accident happens. Emergencies such as trailer accidents, barn fires, floods and other natural disasters, present a unique challenge.
WV Equine Association has partnered with Days End Farm Horse Rescue whom will be conducting the training. Days End is a nationally recognized leader in the rescue, recovery, care and treatment of horses. They have extensive knowledge and expertise in helping large animals.
The cost of this course is $50 and includes lunch for both days. Pre-registration is required, and the class is limited to 25 participants. The course may also be audited, the cost for auditing is $15 a day or $25 for both days.
For more information visit the West Virginia Equine Association Website at: www.wvequineassoc.org or contact Laura Riddle at 304-464-5655 or riddlell@suddenlink.net.
