WV Motorcycle and Safety Awareness Program Showcases New Mobile Training Unit
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
Charleston, WV (HNN) -- West Virginia’s Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program put its new mobile training unit to work last week in Franklin, WV. Six riders were trained at the Franklin DMV Regional Office in the Pendleton Business Center, and are now ready to seek their motorcycle endorsement.
It was the first time a motorcycle safety course has been taught in one place. Usually, the trainers, also known as “Rider Coaches”, have to lecture in a classroom at one location and then go to a different location for the field exercises.
The new mobile training unit consists of the large trailer, able to hold up to six training motorcycles, and up to six people for the classroom inside it. Federal funding through a SAFETEA - LU grant paid for the trailer and the truck and the motorcycles were paid through the Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program fund.
For more information, please call Joe Tyree, program manager of the WV Motorcycle and Safety Awareness Program, at 304-558-1041.
