Charleston, WV (HNN) – Confirming earlier broadcast reports, a Charleston newspaper has confirmed a shortage of Tamiflu liquid, which is commonly given to children. The Daily Mail reported on Friday, Oct. 9 , however, that the shortage extends beyond Charleston.
The three largest wholesalers in the country are out of the liquid form, Brac Brown, pharmacist and owner of the Poca Valu-Rite and Cross Lanes Family Pharmacy told the paper.
However, most pharmacies have a large stock of the stronger capsules. Brown said that a lot of independent pharmacies are “using the capsules and compounding the liquid themselves for different age groups.”
The mixture instructions have been provided by pharmaceutical organizations. The article indicated that the Charleston pharmacy implementing the compound had been “bombarded” AWednesday , but on Thursday, Oct. 8, the requests were not quite as bad. On Tuesday, they had come at about five per half hour for the compound.
