Homeless Haven History
City Wipes Out 'Tent City' Sites
The blazingly hot July sun has fewer trees blocking its path to former campground of the homeless

Bright and early Monday morning city workers began destroying the cloaking surrounding the sites where the homeless once lay their heads. They cut down trees, cleared brush, destroyed tents and generally made the woodsy get-away inhospitable for anyone who hoped to camp there again. No homeless were around to see their 'substandard housing' dismantled, so none were arrested for defying the city's order to hit the road, Jack. Tony Seaton has the story. The end of tent city becomes a reality over the weekend as police are expected to give final warnings to those who still have tents or other home sites in the woods behind the floodwall not 100 yards from Pullman Square. A coalition of homeless help groups called Housing First met with the homeless to tell them some of their options after eviction. Asked where he thought the homeless should go, the mayor said, 'Another city.' Tony Seaton reports. Click the picture to see the video story.

For an Apple iPhone, of course. Friday was the BIG day, the day thousands had waited for: the LAUNCH. And by all accounts, take off the phone did. Reports of lines around the block came from all over the country. See how sales went in downtown Huntington by clicking the picture above.
