OPA! 25th Annual Greek Orthodox Festival Arrives
Hundreds Turn Out For Baklava, Pears, Lamb, Hummus and Tradition

OPA! The traditional Greek cry of joy was certainly heard around St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Friday. And not just after work, Word was the lunchtime crowd couldn't wait until 5 o'clock rolled around so they rolled over to 11th Ave. early for a taste of the traditional foods to be had at the 25th Annual Greek Festival. The dancing had to wait until closing time, but it was worth the wait. The Greek Festival grows each year; it's one of the top festivals in the state, with reports of folks journeying from Atlanta to get in on the fun. It lasts until Sunday, but if you want to see what it's all about before you go, please check out producer Tony Seaton's video by clicking on one of the pictures above.

ChiliFest 2007 Roaring Success
Raised Thousands for Ronald McDonald House Charities

A crowd estimated by organizers at over twenty thousand, packed closed-to-traffic Third Ave. and Pullman Square Saturday for Chili Fest 2007.
They ate, played, danced, listened to music from Big Planet Soul and the Grass Stains, and ate some more. Dozens more chili makers that in previous years were on hand from as far away as D.C. and Cinncinnati to try out their concoctions on Huntington's palates. The winning chili cook of the WV State Chili Championship, (which this is considered,) Dave Staley, from Nicholasville, KY, goes on to the national chili contest in Nebraska.

911 Memorial Service in Huntington
Mayor honors first responders, victims, six years after

Maybe it's just me, but it's hard to believe it's been six years since that fateful September morning. Perhaps we put those images out of our minds for our own sanity, but as Tuesday was the sixth anniversary, and there were memorial services all over the country as well as here in Huntington, we thought we'd show you once again, what that day was like. Please watch the video report about the tragedy and today's memorial service by clicking on a picture above.

WVU Comes to Huntington for First Time Since 1915
We Killed 'em with Class; Parties Everywhere

Big fun, had by everyone Saturday. Even though Marshall couldn't quite take it the distance, they acquitted themselves well. Many were worried that the Herd would be lucky to score, but the opening kickoff return and Binswanger field goal ignited the crowd and got the place pumping. It was hot as a day at the beach, and nobody brought lotion, but that didn't stop the record-breaking crowd of more than 40,000 from enjoying every minute of the game. The end result wasn't ideal,
but, hey, we're just getting started.
HNN's Tony Seaton was at the tailgate parties and on the sideline for you.

A Little Bit Country, a Little Bit Funky...a Lot of Rock-n-Roll
Lonestar Tears it Up in Free Pre-Game Concert

Thousands of fans of West Virginia, Marshall and Lonestar jammed, (literally,) together on Third Ave. in front of Pullman Square Friday night. A free concert proved we all can "just get along." With the game nigh, worries and rumors had mounted, but they didn't matter this night. Police reported a hassle-free good time was had by all. Except for you. If you weren't there, that is. But, no worries, we've got a taste of the evening for you.
Producer Tony Seaton waded into the partying throngs and has the scene on tape.

Big Game Creates "Litter Gitter" Devotees
Dozens Turn out to Clean Up Before Saturday

With litter pickup sticks in hand, about 50 people fanned out across downtown Wednesday to get rid of cigarette butts, broken beer bottles, paper, Styrofoam, plastic bags...you name it. If it had been in someone's hand before, it was on the street later. That's where the Rotary Club and this group of folks not afraid to get their hands dirty for a good cause came in.

John Marshall Fife and Drum Corps Debut
Marshall Adds Unique Sound to its Repertoire

A sound reminiscent of the turn of the century--the 18th century--will soon fill Joan C. Edwards stadium. Saturday's MU-WVU game will mark the coming out of a new addition to Marshall's instrumental entertainment offerings, as the only collegiate-level fife and drum band in the country plays the pre-game show. Wearing authentic-looking uniforms of the era of Marshall's namesake, Chief Justice John Marshall, and playing historically accurate tunes to period beats, the John Marshall Fife and Drum Corps should enliven any of the many events they're already booked to play.
Labor Day saw their unofficial debut on Old Main's front lawn, and not many people got to see it.
