Moe's Is Back!
Popular Grill Returns to Pullman

It was January when Moe's closed its doors to move to the Ninth St. Plaza for bigger digs, many thought at the time. Now, thanks to an arrangement with Pullman for more square footage in an expanded version of their old haunt between Starbucks and the then-not-yet-existent Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Moe's is back on the Square. Friday was a secret pre-grand opening without any advertising and judging from the fact they 'turned over' the dining room five times in just the hour or so HNN was there shooting, the joint should be jumpin' as ever Saturday for the Official Grand Re-Opening. Click on a pic above to see the triumphant return of Moe's Southwest Grill to Pullman Square.

They spoke of what a great friend Leah is, or was, in a confounding service for those who didn't know whether to speak of the missing Marshall 21-year- old in the past or present tense as the search for any sign of her goes on. Organized by the dauntless Angie Fletcher, who was the aunt of the two Adkins brothers, Christopher and David, killed in the wreck, the benefit went on for hours as dozens of musicians played their hearts out to help the Adkins and Sinclair families with the immense cost of funeral arrangements and related expenses. The Huntington Symphony Orchestra, with maestro Kimo Furuamoto, plucked the strings of the audience's heart at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center Saturday night. They performed Christmas classics and had a little help from some little helpers, the Covenant School Choir, and the ARTS children's chorus, singing "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing' among others. The HSO received a standing ovation from an appreciative crowd of more than 500, which is more than double last year's Christmas concert turnout.
Click on a pic above for a taste of this year's musical delights, which you can also still see live, as there is another concert Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center on Marshall's campus.

ARTS-Arts Resources of the Tri State—the organization that uses the old Huntington High for children and adults to practice their crafts and learn new ones—was the beneficiary of the Holiday Candlelight House Tour fund-raising event Saturday. Thousands of dollars were raised for renovations and new equipment for ARTS, as hundreds of 'tourists' paid to see the inside of some very nice homes all done up for Christmas.

Ever Since WAM, Huntington Has Been On a Roll

It seems like it HAD to be more than a year ago, so much has happened since, but it wasn't. A year ago this weekend was THE EVENT. Huntington's taste of the big time. Sure, there'd been movie premieres here before, I mean, really, who can forget "Birds Do It," the 1966 Soupy Sales 'blockbuster' that premiered right in the very same spot? It even had a reception at The Frederick--now THAT was big stuff. For it's day. And when you're nine years old. For this day though, it didn't get any bigger than the two Matthews, Kate, Anthony and McG in town for the premiere of We Are Marshall. Things haven't been the same since.
Take a look back at HNN's coverage of this seminal event. Click on a pic and marvel at the prescience!

The tears flowed freely Wednesday night as friends and loved ones of Robert Sinclair, David Adkins and Christopher Adkins told the audience estimated at more than 300 what a loss their deaths in the tragic car and school bus collision Tuesday were. Not that the audience didn't already know that; many were overcome by grief and left the service sobbing. Beautiful hymns and spiritual messages mixed with testimonials for over an hour, and Huntingtonnews.net has part of the memorial for you if you weren't able to make it.

Joyce Saunders is a genealogy buff. So, when the West Virginia Department of Transportation contacted her to tell her they wanted to put a road right through a family cemetery she didn't know existed, she was anything but upset. "If you'd have given me a million dollars, it wouldn't have meant as much to me," said Saunders. In Part One, in her own words, is her story and the ceremony in which she arranged to have her great-grandfather's grave moved from Putnam County to Huntington's Spring Hill Cemetery this summer.
