Marshall tied the game 38-38 with 8:24 remaining. Always close to UAB, Marshall was not able to over come the UAB defense that is ranked number five in the country.
A missed two pointer or three pointer by Marshall kept them from tying or taking a lead and possibly winning the game. Marshall Coach Royce Chadwick said, "We were three plays away from winning this game."
Marshall shot 17-46 for 37% in field goals. The Herd was 4-15 from the three point line for 26.7%. In free throw shooting Marshall was 7-11 for 63.6%. UAB was 20-46 in field goal shooting for 43.5%. In three point shooting UAB was 6-15 for 40% and 4-8 for 50% in free throw shooting.
Village Magic performed at the intermission under the direction of Coach Richard Williams to the appreciation of the audience.
